Brodrick and Liam pulled up to the house in silence. They were the only two brothers that didn’t enjoy talking as a pastime. Personally, he thought that was why they got along so well.

“Remember what I said about the soufflé.”

“Yeah,” Brodrick said with his eyes on the snow.

“What did I say?”

“Something about keeping it firm.” Brodrick dismissed the question as he walked inside. There was a set of footprints clearly marked in the snow. Someone was inside with Ansley.

Liam caught on quick enough and followed closely behind. They found Ansley and Gabby sitting on the ground in the dining room playing on an old smart phone. Ansley had clearly found another victim.

His little girl was currently in love with a princess fighting game. They were both so engrossed in the game that they didn’t look up when they walked in. Ansley looked so happy, and Gabby seemed to be enjoying herself as well.

“Well, I’ll be damned,” Liam said from behind him.

Both of the ladies looked up then. Ansley with surprise and Gabby in fear. Her brown skin paled when she realized they were inside. Brodrick wondered what put such fear in her eyes.

“I can’t believe I didn’t hear you come in. I need to be more aware of my surroundings,” Gabby said quietly.

“Let me guess; you came up here to cancel and Ansley refused your offer.”

Gabby sighed. “She’s really hard to say no to.”

Brodrick laughed. “That is true. If you want to head back until dinnertime, I can take you back.” There was something in his eyes. A hint of need that she didn’t want to deal with, especially not after spending time with his adorable daughter. Ansley reminded her of all the things she’d never have.

“If you don’t mind, I think I’ll just stay here until dinner.”

Brodrick smiled sinfully. “Anything that gets me more time with you sounds good to me.”

“Brodrick…”

“Lass, don’t worry. You are perfectly safe with me…for now.”

Liam walked over, looked at her score, and whistled. “I have never made it past Elsa.”

“Thank you for saying that. That level took me longer than I expected. Ansley definitely took it easy on me.”

“That makes you one of us. No one here can beat her when it comes to games.”

Gabby’s stomach growled. She hadn’t eaten in a while.

“Do you want me to make you something to eat?” Liam asked. This close, she could finally make out the tattoos on his arms. A large dragon was at the center of them. Damn, how did all the Campbell men come out so sexy?

“I’ve already taken care of that,” Brodrick announced. She hadn’t heard him leave.

Brodrick placed a plate of warm chocolate chip cookies on the table. He chuckled when Gabby and Ansley smiled with approval.

“Thanks, this looks good.” Gabby looked up, and he caught her eyes. For a second, she forgot all the reasons why she needed to keep a barrier up. How did this man affect her like this? She was thirty-three years old and yet, she felt like a high schooler in front of him.
